On Thursday 8th March, our school participated in the Tag Rugby Sub City Finals event at Smestow Secondary School.
There were 8 schools participating – split into two leagues, and the top schools would qualify for the City Finals on Monday 26th March at Wolverhampton Rugby Club.
We were very fortunate to be joined by an ex pupil – Ruby Cochrane – who has been volunteering to help support the club. Our first game was against Bhylls Acre and it was very closely fought, with us losing 6-5. Our second league game was against Villiers Primary school and we continued to play well – winning 4-2. The final league game was against St Stephens, who had started with the same results as us. This was a close match and finished 3-3. Amazingly, we finished 2nd in our group due to the amount of tries we had scored.
This then meant we were playing for the top four positions overall. We had to play the team that topped the other league, which was Uplands. The children (already ecstatic with finishing second in the group) carried on their fine form and won 5-4 to earn the right to play for 1st or 2nd place. Their next game was a repeat of their first against Bhylls Acre and despite a strong performance – Bhylls Acre won 3-1. A really strong performance from SS Peter and Paul, who are playing the best rugby for years. We go into the Finals event in a few weeks full of confidence. Well done to all the children involved and thank you to all the parents who came to support.
