Yesterday in school, we celebrated International Women’s Day. All the classes had their own focus and Mrs Walker had conducted some interviews with some inspirational women in the local area that the children could be inspired by and find out about.
Each child in Year 6 researched an inspirational woman of their choice – this formed part of a class piece of display work.
They learnt particularly about the three black women (Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughn and Mary Jackson) who were a pivotal to the NASA space project and their engineering, physics and mathematical skills saved the life of John Glenn, the astronaut. They watched Hidden Figures. They then responded to this, extending their class display – their reactions were incredible!
Year 1 did a reactivation reading comprehension on Rosa Parks and Year 5 discussed famous women who have made a different across history.
